Council NewsA Message from Council President Darlene Post
The Township Council is looking forward to a very productive 2012. As we start a new year, we will do so adjusting to change in the form of Michael DeFrancisci’s resignation as Mayor, which was effective as of January 20, 2012.
While the process of appointing a new Mayor is underway, the Council remains diligent in its commitment to important projects and initiatives. Together, we will continue to work on ways to find new ratables to offset the tax burden. Stabilizing – and perhaps – reducing the tax burden to our residents is paramount in the coming year and it will take teamwork and creativity to identify projects that will help us work toward this goal.
Other important initiatives involve enhancing our town – whether it’s the downtown area or our parks – we will pursue programs that allow us to do more to highlight the great things that make Little Falls a wonderful community.
The Township is engaged in a Pilot Program to look at the benefits of becoming a designated Transit Village. This process will help us identify zoning changes that will enhance our downtown. As a designated Transit Village, the Township will be eligible to apply for grants that will allow us to implement streetscape projects that showcase our businesses.
Flood mitigation remains on the top of our priority list. The Township’s aggressive stance to helping our flood victims is unprecedented and we will continue this with vigor. We will continue to pursue grants to allow for the acquisition or elevation of flood prone properties and remain the leaders in securing mitigation grants on behalf of our residents.
This year is the first year the Township will have an active Open Space Trust Fund. In the coming year, we will begin to strategically plan ways to enhance the Township’s park and recreation areas through grants. The Trust Fund opens the door to potential funding streams that will allow us to acquire properties for open space and also complete projects to enhance our existing park and recreation areas.
There is much to come in 2012, and we want to hear from you! Please share your ideas, suggestions and concerns. We welcome your participation and thank you for making Little Falls a great place to live.
Respectfully,
Darlene Post
