Heart disease remains the leading cause of death for both men and women in the United States, claiming the lives of nearly 610,000 people in the United States each year—that’s 1 in 4 deaths occurring as a result of this devastating disease. Anyone, including children, can develop heart disease, which occurs when plaque builds up in your arteries. When this happens, your arteries can begin to narrow, which blocks the flow of blood to the heart.
