Hemoglobin A1C Testing

The Clifton Health Department and St. Mary’s General Hospital will be holding FREE Hemoglobin A1C Testing on August 21, 2019 from 10am-12pm at the Clifton Health Department, located at 900 Clifton Ave, 2nd Floor. Registration is required; please call 973-470-5773 to register. This screening is open to Clifton and Little Falls residents. Please note: fasting is NOT required for this test.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the A1C test is a simple blood test that measures your average blood sugar levels over the past 3 months. It is one of the commonly used tests to diagnose prediabetes and diabetes. When sugar enters your bloodstream, it attaches to hemoglobin, a protein in your red blood cells. Everybody has some sugar attached to their hemoglobin, but people with higher blood sugar levels have more. The A1C test measures the percentage of your red blood cells that have sugar-coated hemoglobin.
