Update on the Coronavirus September 11, 2020 - Little Falls COVID-19 Update

UPDATE — September 11, 2020, 5:30 p.m.


Little Falls has six new cases since August 28, 2020 bringing the total number of cases to 170. There are 7 COVID-19-related deaths to date. Please see the attachment (at the end) for more information. Please note that there may be additional pending cases in the State and County system that may not be reflected in these numbers. Please note that updates will be provided several times per month unless emergent information needs to be provided.

If you are traveling to New Jersey from any one of the highly impacted states, you are urged to self-quarantine for 14 days. This means that you should NOT leave your home, hotel, or other lodging, except to seek medical care/treatment, or to obtain food and other essential items (while practicing the appropriate precautions). The Passaic County Board of Chosen Freeholders is offering free COVID-19 testing at home in partnership with Vault Health. This program is available to Passaic County residents only. On 8/7/2020, in an effort to urge people to answer critical calls from contact tracers, the New Jersey Department of Health unveiled an online dashboard highlighting New Jersey’s contact tracing efforts throughout the state. The Contact Tracing Dashboard, which will be updated on Fridays, provides information such as: the percentage of cases successfully interviewed, those who provided contacts, contacts notified, and more.   • St. Agnes food pantry will be open the first and third Saturday from 8:30 until 12:30 p.m. If you require assistance outside of these days, please contact Bob Dombrowski at 201-247-5009.
  • St. Agnes Food Pantry is also still asking for donations as well as anyone in need of donations to contact Bob Dombrowski.


  • The Little Falls United Methodist Church Food Pantry offers dry goods only to those in need. We are located at 139 Main Street, Little Falls.
  • Expanded hours: It is now open on Tues-Wed-Thur-Fri, from 10am-12pm. New clients will be asked to complete an application and provide a valid ID. Face covering is required.

Little Falls Municipal Building

  • The Little Falls Municipal Building will remain open with regular summer hours from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 Monday through Thursday and 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon on Friday, with the tax office closing 30 minutes prior to closing time each day.
  • The Municipal Building will be reopening to the public starting on July 20, 2020.
    • There must be a valid reason/business to enter the building
    • You must exit the building once your business is completed in the office you are visiting
    • Tax Payments must be made using the exterior window. DO NOT ENTER the building simply to pay your taxes.
    • No more than 10 members of the public in the building at any one time.
    • No more than 1 person in an office at one time
    • Public must have facial covering.
    • Social Distancing Required
    • Forms will be placed in the vestibule
    • Hand sanitizer available for all who come into the building
  • All municipal offices will continue to be open for information by telephone, (973) 256-0170 or fax (973) 890-4501 or e-mail obtained on the Township Website. Please be patient as some departments are continuing to be run on limited and remote staff.
  • You may be asked some screening questions at the time of requesting access to the Municipal Building such as:
    • Do you have any respiratory Symptoms, Fever, Cough, Shortness of Breath, Sore Throat?
    • Have you been in contact with anyone who is COVID Positive?
    • Have you worked in locations or otherwise with recognized COVID cases?
      • An affirmative response in any of these questions keeps you out of the building.
  • The building is being sprayed twice per day using PERMASAFE, a product with a CDC Compliance Certificate.

Little Falls Police Department

  • The Police Records and Dispatch windows will be open for all emergent matters. Please ring the bell located near the outside door

Little Falls Municipal Court

  • Municipal Court is having limited video and telephonic sessions. Tickets can be paid by accessing the New Jersey Court Payment system at www.njmcdirect.com.

Tax Office

  • A tax collection drop box window has been installed on the exterior of the Municipal building near the rear entrance. Tax Payments must be made using the exterior window. DO NOT ENTER the building simply to pay your taxes.
  • Tax payments can be made by mailing them to the Tax Collector at 225 Main Street Little Falls NJ 07424. Please mail in copies of your tax bills along with your checks.
  • Instead of coming to Town Hall for our Tax Collector to fill out your Verification of 2018 and 2019 Property Tax form PTR-1A and/or PTR-2A, you will need to mail the Verification of Tax form PTR-1A and/or PTR-2A to our Tax Collector with a self-addressed stamped return envelope to be filled out and returned to you. A window drop box exists in the rear of town hall building inside of the Tax Collector’s window that you can place this form in a sealed envelope. All should be addressed to the Attention of Tax Collector along with a self-addressed stamped return envelope and it will be mailed back to you after completion.

Building/Fire/Electric/Plumbing Inspections

  • All required inspections for new construction, new additions and any work on the exterior or outside of any occupied building will be performed as normal. Inspections can be scheduled by calling 973-256-6182 and will be scheduled on Wednesdays only.
  • Contractors may report construction activity, such as rough inspections, in existing occupied buildings with photos or other documentation for the time being. Documentation can be emailed to the Construction Official via email at jdimaria@lfnj.com
  • Items listed as Minor Work at N.J.A.C. 5:23-2.17A require only a final inspection. This includes inspections of replacement items such as a residential heater, air conditioner and/or water heaters. These inspections will be deferred to a later date.
  • Permits and other correspondence may either be mailed or placed in the Building Department Drop box located in the Lobby of the Little Falls Police Department. Permit payment and pick up will be arranged after the Permit is approved.
  • Inspections related to closings will be handled using a Certificate in Lieu of Inspection form filled out by the current owner. Once the inspection form is received along with an application for a certificate of Compliance a property review will be conducted. If the property does not have any open permits or new or outstanding property maintenance violations a certificate will be generated within three business days. All required forms can be obtained by emailing James DiMaria at jdimaria@lfnj.com.

Senior Citizen Programs

The Little Falls Senior Group Activities have resumed outdoors.

  • The senior bus will continue to service food shopping, prescription pick up, and well doctor visits only. If you are sick DO NOT ride the bus.
  • The bus driver can be contacted directly at (201) 994-6831.
  • Applications for the bus are being WAIVED during this time so long as all other requirements to qualify for the bus are met.

Little Falls Public Library

  • The Library is opened to the public with only a limited number of people permitted to enter at any given time.
  • No fines will be issued as a result of any late returns.
  • The Little Falls Public Library has suspended all group activities and events.

Little Falls Recreation Center & Facilities

  • Effective June 22, 2020, additional recreation activities are reopening:
    • Some sports will be permitted to resume limited practice with specific guidelines.
  • The Tennis Courts at the Little Falls Recreation Center and Amity Park are now open from 8 AM to 8 PM.
  • The Basketball Courts at Amity Park & Louis St. Park - REMAIN CLOSED.


  • This will be on a trial basis, providing all social distancing and other special rules to limit the spread of COVID-19 are followed.
    1. Maintain social distancing (no closer than 6’ to other player). If this does not occur, courts will be closed.
    2. Singles only, no doubles. Only 2 players allowed per court.
    3. Court hours will be 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM
    4. One hour maximum court time use. Players must vacate court after playing if someone else is waiting.
    5. Players must stay on their side of the court; do not switch ends.
    6. Please consider using your own hand sanitizer before and after play, especially after touching the gates, fence, nets, etc.
    7. Consider spraying tennis balls briefly with a disinfectant spray at the conclusion of play or use new tennis balls the next time you play.
    8. When entering a court, if other players are present, wait until a point has finished, announce that you are entering, and then proceed onto the other court while maintaining 6’ social distancing.
    9. Do not congregate near court opening when waiting to play.
    10. It is recommended to wear a face covering prior to and after playing.
    11. If you or family member have displayed any symptoms or have been exposed to someone with COVID-19, please stay home.

Important Note: Once construction commences at Duva Fields, the Recreation Center complex will be closed in its entirety. We will send out another notice when this date becomes available.

  • Township parks are reopening. There are guidelines in place for the cleaning of the parks.

DPW, Solid Waste & Recycling

  • All solid waste, recycling, bulk waste and vegetative waste pickup will maintain its normal schedule until further notice.
  • The DPW Office will be open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Please call (973) 256-0309 for any additional information.
  • The Township Recycling Center will be modified as follows (additional temporary closures may be necessary):
    • Monday through Friday: 7:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and from 12:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
    • Saturday, Sunday and Holidays: 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
  • No physical contact or face to face contact will be allowed. Minimum of (7) seven-foot distance between employees and residents will be maintained, if any contact is required.
  • Please note that the recycling center is open to Little Falls Residents ONLY!

Little Falls and Passaic Valley Public Schools

  • The Little Falls Public Schools and Passaic Valley High School have begun IN-PERSON AND virtual learning effective SEPTEMBER 8Th. Please continue to view the school’s website and informational postings for additional information.

Township Council Meetings

  • The regular scheduled Township Council meeting of June 8, 2020 will be held however no public will be allowed to attend. The meeting will be live streamed on the Township’s YouTube Channel which can be accessed via our website at http://www.lfnj.com/ or directly from this link. (If conditions permit, this remains subject to change).
  • Public Participation at the meeting will take place as follows:
    • All public comments shall be made by email to the Clerk ckraus@lfnj.com
    • The meeting agenda will allow for a 10-minute recess at the time of the public comment, to allow the public to have 10 minutes to send their comments or questions to the Clerk via email. All emails shall have the person’s Name and Address affixed to the email or the email comment will not be considered.
    • At the end of the 10-minute recess the meeting will be reconvened, and ALL the proper emails received will be read into the record.
    • The Council President will determine if a response is needed, and, if so, will direct said response accordingly.
    • Once this process is completed the meeting will return to the regular order of business.

Proper Hygiene Practices

  • Wash hands with soap and water for a minimum of 20 seconds following skin contact or after a cough or sneeze.
  • Avoid touching eyes, nose or mouth.
  • Cover your nose and mouth while sneezing or coughing and dispose of tissues into the trash.
  • Stay at home if you are sick or experiencing flu like symptoms.
  • Avoid contact with sick people or large gatherings of people.
  • Older adults and persons with chronic medical conditions should stay at home whenever possible.
