As many of you know, the Township recently completed a Municipal Wide Reassessment. Value letters for all properties have been mailed.

The reassessment was needed to better align the values to the current market conditions. Last year, the Township faced more than 450 tax appeals, which created financial hardship not only in settling the appeals, but also in legal fees. The enormity of the financial impact forced the Township to go before the State Local Finance Board to request approval for a $750,000 refunding bond ordinance. Conducting the reassessment brings the values into alignment with today’s economy and real estate market, so while we can anticipate an impact on the tax rate, we do so recognizing that we are basing our budget on real values and therefore, will not spend 2013 being reactive to the enormous burden of tax appeals.

		Little Falls Email Notification
Residents can sign up for Little Falls Township’s Reverse 9-1-1 system through Global Connect. Signing up enables you to receive phone calls from the Township regarding urgent, emergency-based news. Sign up here	The Little Falls Police Department is utilizing the Nixle Community Information Service to send important police-related information directly to residents. Notifications can also be accessed online at Nixle’s web site. Passaic County will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, June 11, 2013 regarding the new Five Year Consolidated Plan and Annual Action Plan for F.Y. 2013 for the Community Planning and Development Program. Passaic County is very interested in receiving comments from the public on the attached Consolidated Plan that will be submitted to the US Department of Housing and Urban Development. The Clifton Health Department is sponsoring a low cost Women’s Cancer Screening from 8:30 am to 10:30 am Friday, June 21^st at Clifton City Hall, 900 Clifton Avenue, 2nd Floor. The screening includes pap test, pelvic exam, physical breast exam, and blood pressure test for a fee of $15.00. Colorectal cancer screening testing kits will be available for $10.00. Referrals for lower cost mammography are available upon request. Mammograms are not done on site. Dawn Ammirata, Advance Practical Nurse, is attending the women’s cancer screening clinic. More...

Current Year (2012) Property Tax Reimbursement. The 2012 PTR applications were mailed out in late February. The deadline to file applications is June 3, 2013.

The format of the 2012 property tax reimbursement application has changed. Applicants must complete the entire application and sign on the last page. Read all instructions carefully. The method of reporting pension and retirement benefits (including IRA and annuity income) for property tax reimbursement purposes has changed as a result of a recent court decision.

Application booklets for first-time filers (PTR-1) are available to the public in the Tax Collector’s office.

The 2013 Little Falls Department of Recreation Summer Camp program will be expanded for this upcoming year. One additional week of camp will be held at the recreation center, and will be led by New Jersey All People Equal (www.NJAPE.org) a premiere recreation, physical education, fitness and wellness organization that adopts and promotes inclusive approaches so to ensure that all individuals can achieve.
